300 days of sunshine per year...
The district of Maia Alta, where the Tiffany is situated, is one of the oldest exclusive residential areas of the spa town of Merano. The villas date back to the heyday of the K&K monarchy in Vienna. Merano was a popular holiday destination in those days, too. Even famous guests such as the young Empress Sissi or the distinguished author Franz Kafka spent their holiday in Merano.
Merano is so special due to the Mediterranean climate in the heart of the Alps on the one hand and the unique mixture of Italian ease and Tyrolean warm-heartedness on the other hand. Merano has been at the cultural border between the Germanic north and the Roman-Mediterranean south for centuries and has absorbed the best of both cultures in the course of the years. This is especially evident in gastronomy. You will often find pizza and espresso, bacon dumplings and beer or homemade tiramisu and poppy-seed dumplings with custard on the different menus.
Merano became famous as a spa town due to its mild climate and the thermal waters. The new Merano Thermal Baths are situated in the heart of the town, surrounded by a spacious Mediterranean park. The chic spa promenade with the so-called Kurhaus and the town theatre are right at the other side of the Passirio river. At the foot of the Küchelberg mountain and the Tappeiner walk, you will find the parish church of St. Nicholas and the medieval arcades. The Gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle, which were chosen to be the most beautiful gardens of Italy in 2005, are not far from our hotel.
Merano is surrounded by the mountains of the Nature Park Texelgruppe. The Passeier Valley, the Vinschgau Valley and the Adige Valley cross here and therefore make Merano the ideal starting point for all kinds of excursions. Bolzano, the provincial capital, which is famous for the South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology where Oetzi, the ice man, can now continue his well-earned 5,000-year long sleep, is only some 30km away.
